- This scenario has the characters Spavento, Arlecchino, Franceschina, and Graziano in very small numbers of scenes. Andrews speculates that they were inserted as an afterthought for comic relief because this scenario has a lot of sad moments.
- Several of the scenes in this scenario have long nuanced descriptions because the emotional content is complicated. This will take the actors in those scenes a lot of preparation to get the scenes to ring true.
- The Gonzagas (Dukes of Mantua) were fabulous patrons of the Gelosi troupe and other famous Theater companies. This play is the only one of Scala’s comedies taking place in Mantua, and several scenes lay on heavy praise of that city.
