Additional Notes
- This scenario has a lot of people disguised as other people which may be a challenge for a small costume department, and for casting.
- Note that Scala mentions Flavio’s parents’ dying in the argument, but no mention of that shows up in his version of the play, but here that was taken as a suggestion to explain some otherwise odd behaviors in the play.
- Women end up marrying men they did not want to marry in the Scala version; this version gives earlier relationships that they return to. In the Scala version, some people are tricked into having sex with people they had not planned to have sex with; here they don’t go that far. In the Scala version Pantalone beats a few people (including “Flaminia”) for weak reasons. In this version the first one is an accident.
- Because so much in act three involves people believing disguises, it feels like it should be a nighttime act.
- In 1.11, Pedrolino asks Cinzio’s help to win Franceschina, but it otherwise appears that he already has her love... so that whole thing is a trick to merely humiliate Cinzio.
